Having a disabled child is a heavy bundle for parents. There are so many questions about managing daily life, therapies, institutions, how to get informations, what one can do or maybe try, searching for answers, exchange and help. And there are so many many vague feelings, too: hope that it may become better, sadness and anger, the little luck about a step forward or a helping hand, fighting against dull prejudices, disappointment. Often parents have no time and place to articulate these different thoughts, it´s hard enough organising the day and coming through it. (weiterlesen…)
In the „Offene Plattform“ there is an extra category „chronically ill“. Anyone that has something to say on the subject can blog it there, if they so wish also anonymously. Positive feedback to this offer has come from a couple of patients forums and selfhelp groups. Many feel it is important to discuss certain taboo subjects outside the safety of closed forums, though there is generally a large reluctance on the subject of illness an the public. But only in a dialogue with healthy persons, colleagues, acquaintances and friends can understanding and solidarity with each other grow.
Patients associations are welcome to open their own accounts on the open platform, where they can post articles (like news letters). Those that do not yet have experience with the dialogue oriented web can gather those there. Through our personal contacts to members of patients associations, formed over a long time, it was possible in the last year to build trust. This makes it possible for us to publish articles anonymously without dispensing with authenticity. This was very important to us. Also we were keen on not being a forum for whining, fakes or cyber-hypochondriacs. Our goal is to build dialogue, also with healthy persons. The open platform with its wealth of subjects seemed to be a well suited format. We are happy about all kinds of guest posts to different subjects like world music or internet radio, or whatever you like. (weiterlesen…)
Blogpatenschaften.de is a project that encourages bloggers to become charitably active and that tries to involve people from different walks of life in the active online communicating community. The goal of the project is to build bridges between online and offline activists. The net with its web technologies, like blogs, wikis and communities that are focused towards dialog, has an enormous potential to forge contacts between humans. Many large communities grew in the last few years. Apart from a focus on fun and dissipation advertising products and services, or polishing an image are important.
Looking at the new “social web” that involves its users in conversations, I ask myself how social can this “social web” be? Is it not possible to make the myriad of acts form committed persons, like those in NPOs and NGOs or self help groups, more visible and to bundle them across organizations? What synergistic effects will be released if all these decentralized activities connect, if all the island like solutions that exist start supplementing each other? (weiterlesen…)

We want to be a catalyst for the connecting and networking of social ideas that, usually, have problems positioning themselves in classic media. We also want to show people with little affinity to the internet, via blog sponsorships, how easy it is to publish and get connected online and what they can gain from this.
In April 2008 we started our first appeal.
We think that „Blogpatenschaften“ can help less internet savvy people understand Web 2.0 the social web. As an example, there are many people that have something important to say, but do not know that the internet can help get their message out there. Experienced bloggers can pass on Know-How, make guest posting possible, or take on a sponsorship for a person or an existing project.
In this way Web-Newbies gain access to publishing, researching and networking online. This can be enriching for both partners as these examples show. Bloggers and non-bloggers can look at things from a different context and social projects and niche-subjects can gain wide publicity with the help of committed bloggers.
If you feel this applies to you and want to take part in either role, you are welcome. Maybe this can be one further impulse for a self assembled movement that connects online involvement with that outside the web.

We promote Blog Action Day 2008.

In my opinion, the “Blog Action Day” is a great idea. Today, attention is very important. This initiative has the potential to direct attention to social drawbacks in a global context. But, what should people do who aren’t bloggers? In Germany, we try to convince bloggers of giving people the opportunity to write an article as guest in their weblogs. People who don’t
have an own blog can choose a weblog from a list at http://www.blogpatenschaften.de/liste-der-blogpaten and contact the weblog’s owner to ask for guest blogging. Christian Spannagel
